Welcome to Scoliosis Education Seminars
To promote high-quality scoliosis education to professionals in order to improve the care of patients with scoliosis.
What We Do
We are focused on providing classes to train Physical Therapists in the Schroth Method. We provide scoliosis patients a central directory of Schroth trained therapists to facilitate connections for treatment.
What is BSPTS
BSPTS is the Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School founded by Dr. Manuel Rigo in 2009. The school teaches physical therapists the original Schroth principles and advanced concepts in scoliosis.
The BSPTS program teaches 3-D scoliosis treatment according to the principles of Katharina and Christa Lehnert Schroth that began in Germany in the 1920’s. Dr. Rigo was trained at the original Katharina Schroth Clinic in Germany in the 1980’s. Since then, he and his staff have practiced Schroth principles at his clinic, Institut Elena Salva, in Barcelona, Spain. In 1989, Dr. Rigo received approval to begin teaching Schroth certification courses for physical therapists. After a decade of teaching, he founded BSPTS to further develop scoliosis curriculum — teaching the original Schroth principles and adding advanced concepts learned during years of clinical experience and research.

Physiotherapy scoliosis-specific exercises - a comprehensive review of seven major schools
This paper will discuss in detail seven major scoliosis schools and their approaches to PSSE, including their bracing techniques and scientific evidence. The aim of this paper is to understand and learn about the different international treatment methods so that physical therapists can incorporate the best from each into their own practices, and in that way attempt to improve the conservative management of patients with idiopathic scoliosis.

The Screening for the Early Detection for Idiopathic Scoliosis in Adolescents
Monitoring Scoliosis Patients on Brace Use Prevents Curve Progression, Surgery
From the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons - Bracing often is recommended for adolescents diagnosed with idiopathic adolescent scoliosis, and a spinal curve between 25 and 45 degrees. When worn consistently and as directed, braces have been found to effectively halt or slow further progression of a spinal curve, often preventing surgery.
